Artist’s note:
A lone worker stands in an open field carrying a stick and a long-handled tool, his face boxed, mapped, and tagged with the code X-888 B1 #344 -00 B18. The labour is old, but the system watching him is not; it arrives from another century and behaves as if it has always owned the view. The figure is drawn by hand against a soft, almost pastoral ground, which makes the surveillance marker feel even more abrupt. Working Under Surveillance keeps returning to this small humiliation: being seen, processed, and reduced while simply trying to move through the day. The field was never empty.
