A figure lies curled on a plain paper ground, knees drawn in, arms folded close, the body washed in blue-grey and turned partly away from view. There is no setting here because the setting would only get in the way. Despondency works by removing the room, the explanation, and the witnesses until the body has to carry the whole condition by itself. Notice how the head is still visible, just enough to make the collapse personal rather than symbolic. The page gives him space. It does not give him help.
