Artist’s note:
A pig-headed figure stands beside a large fire, one hand raised near the face, the whole scene set against a flat orange field. The animal head turns the gesture into something older and less defensible than an ordinary human excuse. The title points at the gap between the person who started the fire and the person explaining why it had to happen. The red stamp and 2022 mark sit in the lower corner, quietly behaving themselves while the rest of the image does not. Every fire has a spokesperson.
